Guides: Playing Most Unreal Engine 4 Games on Windows 7 to 11! | Marshmellow Day Spa & Do You Copy?

I will be using the game Marshmellow Day Spa & Do You Copy for this guide but the same steps should work to play most Unreal Engine 4 Games on Windows:

1. Download the game files from here: https://lesser-panda.itch.io/marshmellow-day-spa
2. Right Click and Choose Extract All on the game ZIP archive..
3. Move the extracted folder where you want the game to stay.
4. Try running Winter Jam.exe
5. If you get these errors "The code execution cannot proceed because SOMEDLL was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem." SOMEDLL might be any of the following: XINPUT1_3.dll, X3DAudio1_7.dll, XAPOFX1_5.dll, Other DLLs often starting with an X. This means you need the DirectX Runtime Files.
6. The DirectX Runtime Files can be downloaded from microsoft here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35 Select a Language then click the blue Download button.
7. Above should have downloaded a file called dxwebsetup.exe, next run this downloaded file, click Next, uncheck the Bing Toolbar, then continue with the installer.
8. If running the game also gives you the same error as above but this time SOMEDLL is MSVCP140.dll then you also need the Microsoft Visual C++ Runtimes.
9. The Microsoft Visual C++ Runtimes can be downloaded from here: https://aka.ms/vs/16/release/vc_redist.x64.exe for 64-bit computers, which most running Windows 11 if not all should be. If you need the 32-bit it can be found here: https://aka.ms/vs/16/release/vc_redist.x86.exe
10. Then run that installer, accept the terms and install. This one should be much faster then the DirectX one.
11. Now you should be able to run the game, if not the actual game file is actually under the games files folders "MarshMellowDaySpa\WinterJam\Binaries\Win64\WinterJam-Win64-Shipping.exe"
12. If it still wont run you can right click on WinterJam-Win64-Shipping.exe and select Properties.
13. Then click on Compatibility and put a check on Run this program in compatibility mode for and choose Windows 7, then click OK.
14. You can also try installing its required components found under "/Engine/Extras/Redist/en-us/UE4PrereqSetup_x64.exe"
15. This should get most Unreal Engine 4 games to work on Windows, Enjoy!

In case you are curious, I do nearly all my gaming on Linux! At this point Linux gaming works quite well, usually through Steam Proton which can run most games on linux. I don’t just do gaming on Linux, I use it for everything from the game and voice recordings to the video editing and everything else that goes into making these videos!
